SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — One of two West Virginia players affected by the legal battle over the NCAA’s transfer rules played Saturday following this week’s court order blocking the organizations restrictions against two-time transfers. West Virginia’s Noah Farrakhan scored 15 points in 18 minutes and fouled out near the end of his team’s 87-79 loss to Massachusetts in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. The other WVU player, RaQuan Battle did not play. Coach Josh Eilert said Battle has been fighting an illness since testifying in the lawsuit against the NCAA on Wednesday. Eilert said he expects Battle will play next week. “To have those guys and have some depth at the guard position was going to be critical,” he said. “(Farrakhan) brought a lot of spark off the bench and he can handle the ball and really put a lot of pressure on the ball going downhill.” U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey in West Virginia issued a temporary restraining order against the...Jack Hughes scores hat trick, leads Devils over Blue Jackets 6-3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Samuel Ersson stopped 34 shots for his third career shutout and Cam York scored to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.Ersson was in net with starting goalie Carter Hart out with an illness. The 24-year-old goalie from Sweden had 12 saves in the second period for the suddenly streaking Flyers and held strong at the end when the Red Wings used an extra attacker. Seemingly poised for a long rebuild — general manager Danny Briere had been open about the potential rough rebuild ahead toward becoming a contender — the Flyers instead have won six of seven. The hot streak hasn’t been a fluke, either. Under second-year coach John Tortorella, the Flyers now have 17 wins and 37 points in 30 games. They have a point in a season-best eight straight games, certainly good enough to stick them in the Eastern Conference playoff standings.Sure, it’s only December. But fans and critics — perhaps even those inside the organization ...Al menos 13 muertos y múltiples heridos deja tormenta en Bahía Blanca, Argentina

DENVER (KDVR) -- Inside a packed Hamilton Middle School auditorium, tempers flared Saturday as hundreds argued over a proposed homeless shelter in southeast Denver. That shelter, which would serve families, would be located at what is currently an Embassy Suites hotel at 7525 E. Hampden Avenue. The city has entered into an agreement to purchase the hotel, which is set to be voted on by the city council on Monday. “We’re talking about one, and two, and three, and four-year-olds that we think we want to have inside in housing, and not outside in tents in 20-degree weather," said Mayor Mike Johnston. "I think that’s a value we all share.”While there were dozens of people there to show support, the majority of people who talked spoke out against the plan, citing concerns over safety and property values."The whole area and the community will be dead," said one woman.
